Due to the nature of handcrafted work, subtle variations are natural.

Jean and Tom Heffernan of Heffernan Art Mirrors create these artistic, copper and steel handwoven mirrors.
"Mirrors 'reflect' energy into a room."
"Our work is about color, light, and you. Mirrors have been virtually ignored as a medium for artists. Yet for us, it is perfect. We like people. And we like them raw, exactly as they are – unfiltered, untouched. To celebrate you, your individual qualities and moods, we have put you at the heart of our work"
How They are Made
The production of an Art Mirror is a many-layered process.
The frame of each Art Mirror is constructed of 3/4" cabinet grade plywood. The metal is then woven directly onto the frame, and the mirror is recessed from behind. It is treated with several coats of lacquer made specifically for metal to retard oxidation.
The final step is placing the backing board and hanging hardware on each piece. Steel wire is used to hang their work instead of picture wire, as it is permanent and will never fray or unravel.
What Makes Them Unique?
Art Mirrors are unique in several ways - Styling, Patinas, and Hand Painting
Styling
Art Mirrors have an asymmetrical design, with the mirror placed off-center in the frame. This gives them a more dynamic appearance and keeps them from being boring. It also allows you to hang them in either direction for more versatility.
Patinas
They use chemical patinas as the background for each piece. The tones are muted, and fairly subdued.
Hand Painting
After the piece is woven, it is carefully hand-painted with bright, colorful dyes. The muted tones of the patinas combine with the vibrant colors of the dyes and produce vivid, contrasting color combinations. The look is bold, vibrant, and exciting, with an interesting textural effect.
Care and Maintenance
Care for your mirror, like a fine painting, place out of direct sunlight. Avoid fingerprints, by wearing soft gloves when handling. Do not apply liquids to the steel, only dust with a soft cloth. The mirror glass should be cleaned with a soft cloth and a non-ammonia, non-streaking, glass cleaner.
